SLJ Day 2 Activity 3

Day 2
Activity 3: Weird and wonderful
If you had to feed your cactus plant 3 millilitres everyday for 1 year you would have to feed it 1068 millilitres of water for 1 year.

To solve this problem you would have to start with 3 x 300=900
and then you would have to do 3 x 50=150 and for the second to last step you would have to solve 3 x 6=18 and for the final step you would have to solve 900+150+18=1068

  1. Hi Brooklyn,

It's Leslie here, a member of the Summer Learning Journey team.

I see how you've done the maths for this problem but I'm going to suggest a slightly different way of figuring out how much water you'd need.

There are 365 days in a year which mean multiplying 300 X 3, as you did, =900 ml.
    Then you would multiply 60 X 3 which equals 180 ml. And then you would multiply 5 X 3 which equals 15 ml. Altogether these numbers add up to: 900 + 180 + 15 = 1095 ml.

You were close, just off a little bit.

Do you enjoy doing maths at school? I always think of it as being like solving a puzzle. Fun!!

I hope that you're happy in your new class this term and that you have many friends with you!! Good luck!

    Cheers,

    Leslie
